I think that even though you did not intend to say it out loud, maybe it was best for her to hear it.

I've read the other posts to this reply, and I know that some feel that you should've pulled her to the side to tell her that what she was wearing was inappropriate-I disagree.

I bet at home all of her family members are telling her that it's not becoming, but she doesn't want to hear it. When telling the truth to someone, do not sugarcoat it-tell it like it is. These days, the younger generations think that we older folk are out of touch with what's up-to-date, and with these hoochie mamas in our faces in these videos that we see, some girls probably think that that is the way to look to be accepted. For you to actually tell this young girl how she looked in a way that she probably talks to her friends about others,

"I can't believe she is wearing that! She looks stank!"

I think that it may have done the trick.
Sure, it hurt her, but I think that hurting her feelings was the only way to get through to her.
