Don't mean to intrude, but just wanted to give props for this thread!

A lot of people do not know how important these legal documents are.

I'm a law school student, and my summer job is a research assistant for one of my professors. He basically was one of the creators of the field of "elder law", so i've done a TON of research on these subjects, and written quite a bit about them myself.

After my grandfather passed away this past January (we made the decision to take him off life support after a stroke), I REALLY pressed my parents to get these documents created. They're still young- my dad is 51 and my mom is 47.

It's really important to know what your loved ones' wishes are, and it's important to have it established for yourself as well. That's why I encourage everyone to think about getting these documents created BEFORE they are elderly. A stroke can hit at any time, or a number of other things could cause you to be in that position.

Great thread!
