That is SO true. At a networking function for my company one of the Sr. HR reps told us that same thing. She basically said it doesn't matter how much education you have nor how well you do the job, its WHO you know not WHAT you know that will help you move up in this company. I was floored by that statement because for so long my former supervisor (who was African-American) had been telling me something different, and he wasn't trying to break his neck helping me move up nor any other AA in my department.
