I've been told that I was a cute little kid. I was blonde with green eyes and very talkative. I also had a cute smile. My mother would always dress me up in the frilly little dresses, penny loafers, and my hair was always in braids or pigtails. She made sure I looked "polished" every time I left the house even if I was just going to my preschool class!
It was when I got to middle school that my "gawky" stage hit. I didn't begin to mature until much after everyone else did so I was a lot shorter than most people. Didn't hit my growth spurt until freshman year in high school. After my growth spurt, I towered over a lot of the guys (I'm "5'7"). Also, I was very, very, very skinny to the point where random people would come up to me and ask, "Are you anorexic?" (BTW, that is so rude and unclassy) I was never ugly; it was just that I looked very childlike until I finally filled out when I got to college.
