I'm pretty sure Alpha Phi had the first alumna initiate, Frances E. Willard, who was initiated in 1875.

The Dvine Nine are the 9 African American GLOs. There are 4 (I believe) sororities and 5 fraternities.

Francis Willard (alpha phi) was also a leader in prohibition and women's suffage.

The National Director of Triangle Fraternity is a Delta Sig.

Tri Sigma was the first sorority to create, found and maintain their OWN national philanthropy (The Robbie Page Memorial) instead of adopting another pre existing org.

The one man to wear our badge was James Miller Leake. he was a Kappa Sigma and helped to write our ritual as well as the ritual of another sorority I think?....

So we have a minute connection with a Kappa Sigma, but not Kappa Sigma as an org.

Alpha Phi teaches us that we were the first organization to use Greek Letters I don't know how that all works out but I'm sure there is a minute difference in how we used them making us the first and making the other one first at something else. Alpha Phi also was the first to have ELC's and publish a booklength history in 1902 and i think that it's cool how we called the first NPC meeting together . But a cool fact that I recently learned about St. Mary's and I don't know how true it is since I got it off the internet but St. Mary's University is the oldest University in Texas. There is some other school I don't remember the name that is around from before us but they are a COLLEGE. But we were here before UT and A&M which to me is really darn cool

Sigma was the first sorority to switch to a shortened new member program.

I just learned that myself when I was looking at our national site.

I'm sorry if I'm re-posting, I scanned the entire thread. But of course I could have missed a previous ADPI facts reply.

Here is the big one about us....

Alpha Delta Pi is the oldest secret society in the world for college women (the greek letters, and the term sorority came later). Founded May 15, 1851 at Weslean Female College, Macon GA.

(Next is Phi Mu on the same campus, not sure of their founding date though).

Ok so AST wasn't the firs to do anything. But...we learned that Theta was the first org to use letters and pi phi was the first org.

Tri-sig and ASA were the founders of the AES which NPC admitted as a group in '51.

1886-First women's fraternity in America to build and occupy its own chapter house located at Syracuse University.

1894-The first women's fraternity to use traveling delegates, now known as Educational Leadership Consultants (ELC's) and Regional Managers.

1902-Called the first intersorority meeting with Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, and Tri-Delt; known today's National Panhellenic Conference (NPC)

1905-First statue of a woman in Statuary Hall in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol was of Frances E. Willard

1957-Alpha Phi Foundation established, a first for women's fraternities

1988-Introduced the first risk management education to collegians.

I also believe that Alpha Phi MAY have had the first depledge.

Alpha Phi also has 22 (I believe) chapters in California, I'm not sure if that makes us the most chapters in a state or not.

I'll chime in for Pi Beta Phi

**the First organization of college women founded with thie intention of being a national organization (1867).. we were originally founded at Monmouth College as IC Sorosis but took the Greek letters Pi Beta Phi in 1888. Our second chapter, at Iowa Wesleyan University has been in continuous operation since 1868.

**the first to establish a national alumnae department (1893)

**the first to establish a philanthropic project- Settlement School (1910)

One of the seven founding members of NPC but FIRST in the rotation of chairman.
