The thought that they were named "Indians" may makes sense but it is not true. It is more likely to be that Indios(spelling is prob. pretty far off) an Italian word, since Columbus was Italian, means "with God" or "near God". If you notice to europeans these natives were living simply and didn't see much reason to advance technologically. They were living close to how the Europeans saw "Eden" and "God"

figured I'd pass on something I remembered from my AP history classes.
