well, the "no philanthropy" thing can have two reasons:
1. There are campus wide events like Greek Week that donate to philanthropy and therefore are philanthropy events;
2. By not allowing them to do anything together in public, even if it's philanthropy, they don't get their name out. No publicity is bad publicity. The other sanctions (like removing their bench) make it clear that the school is trying to make them a nonentity as a punishment.
