				DL Hughley Commerical

Did ya'll see that commerical? It was just on BET a few minutes ago.
DL got some boys stepping in canes talking about "dial down the center.... c-o-l-l-e-c-t." And they taking AT&T wood. So you know what the next question is right???

I never thought I'd see the day. A commerical based on stepping (or was it pledging).

I saw that commercial last week and I was like OH NOOOOO. I told my Honey about it and I couldn't believe it.
I described the entire commercial to him.....at first I was like okay, they are stepping to At&T. The flags on the wall and all....BUT THEN THE PADDLE??????????
I said what is the message here? Step to call collect and if you don't you will get wood? WTH???

Can someone enlighten me on this....DUDE???!!!!!

Is D.L. in a fraternity? Doubt it! And if he’s not, why did he agree to rep. something he knows little about. If he were a member of a GLO, he probably would have known better. He needs to be schooled.
I am so tired of the negative publicity that black GLOs get. This is one of the main reasons I'm not a spike lee fan. School Daze really put out some negative images of GLOs. Again, Spike Lee, another non-greek, made an entire movie with his limited knowledge. My experiences with members of this and other black GLOs have been inspirational and positive. They have earned my admiration and respect on so many levels. Members of black GLOs have the major responsibility of trying to live up to and excelling beyond the standards set by their founders. This can’t be easy.

Initiation is a major part of greek life and can be the determining factor of whether the individual will be active in an org. but pledging/paddling is not the beginning and ending of any frat.

One day, search the web for sorority jokes and I know you will feel my frustrations. The jokes all have a sexual tone that makes sorority girls seem stupid. Also, let’s not forget, black GLOs and white GLOs are TOTALLY different. I often hear my white coworkers talk about how they USE to be in a sorority in their prime. For the big 8 predominately black GLOs, we are talking about a lifetime commitment to that organization and the COMMUNITY.

My efforts to generate interest in GLOs in my school have been met with opposition from those tainted by the School Daze image of fraternities and sororities. DL’s commercial get's no love!

DL is just reading what the writers of the commercial presented him with. He (more likely than not) doesn't have a say-so in the pre-planning of these commercials.
Shucks, I'm sure he isn't going to rock the boat. What other job offers has he received? He needs to continue to WORK to guarantee his wifey can host that getaway for all of her 30+ friends at the ranch we saw on Oprah!

I don't know what to tell ya...

I think I was just surprised to see it that's all. I saw the commercial on BET (I know I know) and it made me wonder. I won't even mention what color the canes were.

 | Why not!?!?!?!?! It's really not that deep. We will all at one point see the commercial.

Well, I will......They were blue & white. D. L. had on a blue and white leather jacket. The canes were wrapped in blue and white tape.

There are AT LEAST 64 colors in the Crayola crayon box (at least it was in the late 70's early '80's) LOL. They had to choose blue & white? Why not Orange and black, or beige & aquablue? But not the colors of any of the NPHC.

Just so there is NO misunderstanding....I find the whole thing amusing. I'm not really upset or mad or anything like that. I just look at it and laugh.

If they could only show a commercial promoting Community Service and each one of us doing our projects..... things to make you go HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

 | Thanks for sharing the colors, ZetaFG. I am sure that it will irritate a lot of us. When I said it isn't that deep, I meant the secrecy.

You're right they could have chosen 800 other color schemes, but please do not own other's decisions. The org is so much bigger than that commercial. That commercial is AT&T's interpretation of fraternities and sororities, not just Phi Beta Sigma.

Oh you are absolutely right CT4.
Next question.....how many of our Frats & Sorors will be using the AT&T commercial as a skit for a stepshow or probate? lol

I didn't mean to cause no bad feelings.... I just know how some people are "possesive" about certain things (I guess I would understand better if I get there).
I notice that BET (yes I was watching it again today) has not shown the commercial today. Has anyone seen it elsewhere or will it be a BET exclusive?

I can't wait to see the stepshows and the Fall probates.. but I think it might die down by then, (that is if the commericial dies down).
