Many companies also have prepaid service.If you put up $30 for two months and just use it in an emergency,it isn't as bad.I work part time for Radio Shack,so I know that Sprint and Verizon both do.I am sure that most other companies have a prepaid plan too.There is no credit check and you can usually get a good deal on the phone .Right now ,we have a prepaid bundle pack with Verizon where you can get the phone, 3 accesorries and a $15 starter card for $49.One of the accessories is a car charger which I would recommend everyone get.That itself is usually $30.You never know when that will come in handy and it certainly does.
You were right about Sprint having a more lenient credit check.The basic deposit for them is $125 and goes up.Verizon is considerably more and they are much pickier.It is uncommon for them to have a $400 or 500 deposit demands.
Wherever you go though,you should be able to find a good deal if you are a new customer.It is the existing customers who have the problems.
