What do you wish you had known about college before going to college? This is in regards to your senior year in high school, the application process, choosing a college, what you are told about college classes and professors, greek life, life in the dorms, people in general, etc. etc.

You don't HAVE to stay at the college you start at if your interests change...

DON'T GET CREDIT CARDS!!

Live in as many different dorms as possible...

Try many different things: Orientation leader, RA, drama club, etc. Don't be afraid to start a club if the one you are interested in isn't in existance. I wish I had started an oratory/speech/debate team...

Don't sell back all of your textbooks. They can be useful in later classes...

Having extra toilet paper/pads/soap/ makes you everyone's best friend..

Keep your dorm room door open so others can come in and say hi

Do an internship/externship/co-op/fellowship....anything extra is a great way to get valuable job experience

Take summer classes outside of your major if you can afford it

USE YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISOR!

GET academic letters of recommendation EVEN IF YOU DON'T PLAN ON ATTENDING GRAD SCHOOL!!

It's OK to have friends outside of your GLO...

One one night stand can't hurt :P

Girls really don't want a gentlemen just yet, despite what some TV and movies show, and despite what people say.

No one really has a boyfriend/girlfriend

No one really cares about anything

People give you ish for doing mary jane, but you can snort all the yayo you want and no one would even say a word.

Or Maybe that's just an SDSU thing..........

Never take night classes. They might look good cause you don't have to wake up early, but it sucks.

Try to actually learn in stats class. Boring, but it open up lots of opportunity.

Don't bring vodka to your classes.

I should've done internship every summer.

Get to know your floormates, they may know stuff you might need later on.

RA are people too.

Watch your phone bill.

Becareful what classes you take first semester freshmen year.

Go through rush/recruitment and COB too!!

Keep in touch with old friends.

If you read a great book in a random class it is probably worth keeping it.

Sleep.

Take your vitamins.

Watch what you eat.

Go to anything that's free and interests you. Movies, gym whatever...

			Don't run up student charges.
Don't eat veggies from the cafeteria (I got a bad bug from eating it once)

Don't go to a commuter school.

Don't stay out until 2 on school nights.

Get your organization "the hook up" from stronger organizations.
Being nice comes with a price. If someone was dying on the street of thirst, I bet if you give them a drink they'll surely stab you in the back. Why didn't I carry that wisdom from HS to college?

always ask your GPA standings before they do honor graduates. . .that way it doesn't look like you blackmailed to get the ropes. . .

apply to schools that are near your parents but not too close. . .and if you hate it, change schools

do not go to your fifty-first choice school because your parents want you to

apply to more than 5 schools. ..you can get tons of scholarships going to school further north

party freshman and sophomore year but study between getting ready for 'sink or swim' nights at JP's

ask the tour guides who they took for certain classes

do not room with someone you knew from high school who was a bookworm if you know that you're going to join a sorority

register early so you can get the good dorms. . .scout early so you don't end up in a s*bomb place

never date the atheletes unless you can manage to spend time with him by taking the same classes as him. . .they never have time for you for 3 or 4 months. . .and then, practice for next season starts

Don't stay with the person you dated in high school (home town hunnies is what we called them) Sometimes it works out but more than often it fails...miserably. You grow and change throughout college and many times that person holds you back (or attempts to) Can you tell I'm speaking from experience?
Get to know as many people as possible!

Don't let your parents dictate where you apply to college.
Apply early decision if you know for certain that that school is where you want to go. If you get in, it'll save you a lot of stress later on.

Network, network, network. EVERYBODY is a potential business contact.

Don't take any class that starts before 10am.

If assigned to an early recitation section, switch immediately. When the professor tells you you're not allowed to, ignore him and switch anyway.

Take the time to take an elective or three.

Bring a pillow to statistics lectures

Do EVERYTHING you can. When you first start out. Try to do things that are diverse, you might find something you really like. I'm not a music or broadcast major but I am an anchor/reporter for the newscast and on scholarship to play violin in the orchestra and active in student gov't. Probably won't ever get that kind of opportunity again.

If you have the opportunity to cover the basketball team for the school newspaper, DO IT, even if you have to give up on other stuff.

No classes before 10 am.

Don't work in the school library.

Don't pass up on any opportunity when it is staring you in face, and once you take it- DON'T LET IT GO!!

Just say NO to Credit Cards- even though you can get tons of free gifts for signing up.

Do NOT let your boyfriend control you

say hi to EVERYONE the first week of school

Leave your dorm room open and your music on

don't freak out over every little thing

When the sign says the bus leaves at 2am, that really means 1:45

...and most importantly- no class before noon!

this is the truth!!! i had the WORST EXPERIENCE working in the library. i still have nightmares about the nasty boss i had....and the fact that they didn't give me enough hours during the course of the year, so during study days in the spring semester i was scheduled to work 13 hour shifts....ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? i didn't show up!

take care of yourself!
be open to new experiences.
definately don't choose a school based on a bf or gf.
apply early!!!
apply to schools with rolling admissions (so you don't have to wait until april to get acceptance letters!)
spend a night on campus with students (most admissions depts could set you up with that)
definately check out greek life b4 you decide that it is not for you!
