You mentioned that one member attends your university. Do you know her, or know someone who does that could introduce you to her? You mentioned that you are "qualified" as far as GPA and community service. Make sure that you know what the chapter requires because each chapter may set a higher GPA than what nationals requires. Also, keep in mind to be "qualified" requires more than the required GPA and community service.
When voting for someone, there are several things we must take into consideration. Yes, knowing a candidate does help with the evaluation process, but there were people I knew that I didn't give my full support to when I voted and vice versa. When selecting members for my beloved sorority, I wanted only the best for her. That meant having to put my personal feelings aside and not voting based on friendship or dislike.
My advice to you is to remain focused on your goal and have confidence in yourself. If you meet the requirements, that is wonderful. If they believe you will be an asset, then that is where your "points" will come from. Take care and good luck.
