Question What's Going on w/ National Website?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what's going on with the National website? I know I (and quite a few of the Zeta Mu Chapter Sisters) have tried to log on and the message that popped-up was "Cannot Find Server." Are they revamping it? Or updating?

Sigma Love and Mine,

Laura

There is a problem with the service provider and they are trying to get it fixed asap. Should be back up soon!

Smile It's up and running!

I hadn't checked for a while, but the national website is back up! I don't know how long it's been up. Just thought I'd post this if anyone was wondering!

Liz

It's sort of up, you still can't get on to the private side. It's not that hard to fix, but they spent so much money and don't know much about their own website that it's taking forever.

In comparison to the average web-hosting costs paid by non-profit groups our size and for the amount of support and service that we require, we have actually spent far less than the national average.

Secondly, the reason that it was down for a couple of months was not due to us "not knowing much about our website" (per Tracie's message). It was because the vendor that we were using was purchased by another company and we decided to hire a different web hosting firm that would better meet our needs. Because the management of this effort was all done by volunteers (who all have real, full-time jobs), it took awhile.

We have secured contracts with a new firm and development work is being done as we speak! If anyone is having problems accessing the website, I would encourage them to contact National Headquarters!

Clarification

Actually, With owning my own business and large websites, I have had this EXACT problem and the time that it took to put the website back up was MUCH longer than typical (we were back up in 5 days and always backup our site). If you don't understand what happens with a company when the service provider is switched on you without knowledge, it could take as long as it did (which was unecessary for the company, NOT SSS). That's what I was referring to.

The effort should not HAVE to be done by volunteers, even though volunteers are great and very useful. Website hosting should be handled by full time staff employees. I think content and design/architecture, database management, etc. should be done by volunteers. The example of what happened to our website is exaclty why I feel that.

Thanks,
TriSigmaTX
