Why don't you suggest to the local group to look at affiliating with a non-NPC sorority?
If they do not have a particular sorority in mind, going with a non-NPC sorority would still enable them to go national and have the support and sisterhood that they want. For example, Kappa Beta Gamma or a multi-cultural sorority like Theta Nu Xi may be very happy to accept them. Also, since you are at a largely technical school, Phi Sigma Rho Sorority, which is mainly engineering, may be another a possible solution.
