Alpha Phi had the first traveling consultant program and the first chapter house.

We were also the first of the Syracuse Triad -A Phi, AGD and Gamma Phi.

Here's a list of Tri Delta firsts and accomplishments:

http://www.deltadeltadelta.org/about/acco.htm

My favorite is the fact that we were the first women's fraternity to be FOUNDED as a national organization -- others were national before us, but those were all founded as locals and then eventually decided to expand. Tri Delta had plans to become a national sorority before it even really existed.

Our Alpha chapter at Boston University is still in existence, although it was closed from 1970-1984.

More A-Phi Firsts

Alpha Phi has launched an outstanding record of accomplishments, including:

*1875 invited Frances E. Willard (a women's suffrage leader) to become the first alumna initiate.

*1888 established the Alpha Phi Quarterly, an award-winning magazine that has been published continuously to the present day.

*1902 called the inter-sorority meeting that resulted in the formation of the association now known as the National Panhellenic Conference, which then included Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, and Delta Delta Delta. This was the first intergroup organization on college campuses.

*1905 had a member, Frances E. Willard, recognized by the U.S. Congress who placed a statue of her in Statuary Hall in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, the first woman to be so recognized. The pose is typical of her, standing at a lectern with a manuscript in her hand.

*1940 had a member, Frances E. Willard, portrayed on a U.S. postage stamp.

*1986 introduced RESPOND: A Forum for Supportive Action, an anti-victimization education program dealing with alcohol abuse, acquaintance rape, eating disorders, suicide, hazing, and harassment.

*1988 introduced risk management education to collegians.

*1995 became the first NPC international/national member to have a site on the World Wide Web.

Actually, I believe Kappa Alpha Theta had the first Canadian chapter, the Sigma chapter at the University of Toronto , founded 1887.

According to canadiangreeks.com, Alpha Phi's oldest Canadian chapter (Xi chapter, University of Toronto) was founded in 1906.

Now, granted, Alpha Phi's still open at U of T and Theta's not, so you get points for that!

Delta Phi Epsilon is the first, and to this day, only NPC sorority to have eating disorders (ANAD) as one of its international philanthropies. I think it's sort of ironic, considering college age women are the most susceptible to eating disorders.

Kappa firsts

Kappa is proud to boast many important "FIRSTS" throughout history. The following is an example of some of our achievements.

* FIRST woman's fraternity to publish a magazine, The Key in 1882

* FIRST fraternity to extend invitations to attend a Panhellenic convention, 1891

* FIRST woman's fraternity to establish a Central Office, 1922

* FIRST to adopt the graduate counselor system - established as the Co-Organizer Program in 1928.

* FIRST to set up Service Women's Centersin 1942.

* FIRST woman's fraternity to establish a permanent Fraternity Headquarters, 1952 (located in Columbus, OH)

* FIRST to join with another sorority in a co-housing venture (1965 with Kappa Alpha Theta at the University of Pittsburgh).

* FIRST fraternity to set up a career networking program, 1976

* FIRST women's fraternity to incorporate a Heritage Museum, 1980
