Experience BART... the bay area's answer to the subway. That will take you from san fran to either the Dublin area and back.
Union Square has awesome shopping. You can take the trolley to China Town and then to the coastline near the Maritime Museum.
Pier 39 is a definite must. Check out Hard Rock Cafe and Rainforest Cafe. Both are in the general vicinity. Ghirideli (sp?) Square is also a fun place, also lots of shopping.
Be careful with renting a car in SF. Parking is a madhouse! and very expensive. You are better off walking, talking MUNI, or BART.
