Hey Karyn... save yourself!
Ok... so this savekaryn.com chick was just on TV. She made me absolutely sick! She was all peppy and excited and thought that she was just the coolest because all these people checked out her website and paid and she was all proud that her site was linked on USA Today. Wow! Yeah so I'd be proud to PAY for a website to advertise the fact that I'm $20,000 in debt.
Then she's on this show looking at all these expensive things. "I need a belt.... oh this is $125". At the beginning of her segment she said something about spending frivolously. Yeah no shit Sherlock! Anyone who is that much in debt from buyin things with credit cards should deal with it themselves... get yourself a job! Or two, or three... however much it takes!

That makes me so mad!!! I'd understand if the debts were school debts, but from the sounds of it, she's a careless spender. Does anyone know what exactly the credit card debts are from?

I kinda agree with you there, James. Now, the people who actually take time out of their day to send this girl money, I have to wonder about them. But you know... sometimes people ARE careless spenders, and then they realize the error of their ways. I think she's actually pretty resourceful to find a way to NOT go into bankruptcy. And if you go to her website... she is TRYING very hard to be better... she has a job, is being thrifty, etc. If you've ever had any kind of debt at all, it can be really impossible to pay off. Granted, she shouldn't have overspent in the first place, but hey, I have to give her a hand.

I think I'm just jealous, but it really does make me mad because I'm gonna be poor as hell when I get out of school and buried in student loan debts. I'm going into teaching, too, so I will never be rich enough to spend $125 on a belt. Yes, I know it's what I signed up for and it's the life I've chosen for myself, but things like this really get on my nerves. I mean, who the hell would donate so much money to feed a girl's shopping obsession?? I guess a lot of people .

yea that is pretty good.. although I wonder how much more debt she will get herself into once this load is paid off. she should keep paying on her domain name.. she will probably need it again.

Just to sum it up lol.
the domain name cost her 35 dollars for one year.
The site costs her 5 dollars a month.
She made roughly 21 thousand dollars between charity and ebay sales (and the ebay sales were dependant on her web site), to become debt free which means:
She raised 20 thousand dollars to be completely debt free in 20 weeks! She did this off a total web site investment of 50 dollars!
Damn thats good, and she is no longer taking donations which it kind of cool and shows a lot of well something . . . I am not sure I would have wanted to surrender a thousand dollar a week income.
I guess that speaks badly of me.
I also feel stupid for never thinking this up myself lol.

I have to give Karyn mad crazy props! Sure I'm jealous and wish I had thought of the idea first, but as someone with crazy student loan AND credit card debt along with a low paying job, I sure could use even more $$$ than she raised. If people want to send her money, that's their choice. I've checked out her site before, and I think she actually sounds like a pretty cool person.

I'd cut you a check Valkyrie . . . you should think about making a Save Valkyrie web site.
If a girl has the body I would recomdn they exotic dance for the money. It has to be one of the few part time jobs that can net you close to a thousand dollars a night.

Thanks James! You can send the check to...lol.
I would love to make a website, but I don't want to be a copycat. I was thinking of something like paymystudentloans.com where people could give me money to pay off my law school debt, sort of like a scholarship in reverse. That would take care of a big chunk of my debt. Anyway, since I hate law, I should be able to get a refund, haha.
The thing with exotic dancing -- it sounds like a good idea in theory, but when it came right down to it, I'm not sure I could do it (and I'm not implying that I have the body for it anyway). I pass by a place every day and there are always these skanky mullet guys outside on their cellphones and I just think of them and being in there and it really grosses me out and depresses me. Ick. I mean, it would be awesome if I could do it, but I don't think I could, even if I had the body.

I don't blame her -- she's just got a good idea. The stupid people are the ones who've been donating to her, and if that's how they want to spend their money, that's entirely their choice.
On her website she's got a list of links for people who need money for theoretically more worthy causes -- medical bills and student loans and the like.

Ok I can see if it was students loans and all that stuff that we need to get in order to one day hopefully become successful, but she herself said "frivolous spending".
Hey... my birthday is in a few days. Everyone send me gifts to make my birthday good.
Why not? It's the same thing! And if you look, besides her ebay sellings, she only put in 2000-some herself.
