The first thing that popped into my head was riding horses and having an imagination that was free to make me a cowgirl, an Indian Princess or anything else I could think of.

Then came the Fourth of July. We would go to the lake and stay in my Grandpa's trailer and fish/ride in the boat. This holiday has really changed for me.

This led to my realization that ALL the "summer" holidays have been rather meaningless since I got married. There was ALWAYS some stupid golf tournament EVERY HOLIDAY! Hubby, an avid player, entered every one. As a result, we never did the "family" type of things one associates with summer celebrations. BIG BUMMER! I resented it (still do a bit) for YEARS, then came to the realization that's how HIS family did it... I made up for things because I'm more "spiritual" than he is and I took over Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years. Now that his parents are "older", they suddenly want the Christmas to be the way they think it should be. So, we have two every year.
Easter was the hardest "pill" to swallow. In college several guys from the North started a golf tournament on GOOD FRIDAY!!!
They ended it with a BAR-B-Q! The originators were Jewish and had no care for the meaning of the Day. I attended these yearly reunions (but didn't eat) until the children entered school. Then I put my foot down and now he goes alone. These holidays represent my biggest gripe in the history of our marriage and what I miss so much.
