Get brothers keepers, someone in the same major, maybe even taking the same classes to help them out and make sure they're working at it. after grades come out, give some prize for doing well. the last few years in my chapter, you got half a pizza for a 3.3, and a whole pizza for a 3.7. you could have a dinner, where those that got above a certain gpa get steak, and those below get something like hotdogs.
one of our rules for probation is no drinking during the week, period. for suspension, no drinking at all. now, of course they can go somewhere else and drink, but if a guy comes back to the house drunk, and someone sees him and wants to do something about it, he can be fined. It's a $25 fine per offense. It may sound bad, but this rule is usually enough to at least get people to think about it, and not even because they can't get drunk, but they can't even have a beer while watching a football game or to celebrate anything or whatever. it depends on the person though. obviously, the non drinkers could care less, but if social privelages were taken away, that could work. i think positive reenforcement is the better plan though.
