I had to respond to this post, and I hope no takes any offense to what I have to say. First off, I think its FANTASTIC that all of you have had a wonderful experience with Phi Sig. For myself, I would say that I would never ever take back the two and a half wonderful years I have spent here. I love my chapter sisters, I would do anything for any one of them.
However, I am from one of the chapters that petitioned for alumnae status. Do not think that this was an easy decision, because it wasn't. After weeks (and for our exec. board, all summer) of working to turn our chapter around, all of a sudden, it seemed like more and more demands were placed on our shoulders. For every step forward we took, we felt like we were getting pushed back. Many of our members were starting to buckle under the stress. Finally, we were advised to petition to go on alumnae status as a chapter. After hours of debating about what to do and many tears later, we agreed to do it. We all feel relieved from the stress and pressure we were under. However, there is still to some degree some bitterness.
I still love Phi Sigma Sigma and what it stands for. However, many of us feel like we were screwed out of our collegiate experience(especially the girls we initiated last spring). I am sure that had things been different and I still had an active chapter, I would be all for national. But unless you went through what we went through, you can not possibly know what it was like to get to a point when you wanted to GIVE your charter back. Belive me when that happens, it becomes really easy to badmouth those who you feel were responsible.
If you were to meet me, I don't think you would find me to be a negative person. Yet, even today it is really hard for me to be positive on the subject. It's hard to think that I'll never get to see initiation or any of our other wonderful rituals as an undergrad again. Sorry this post is so long, feel free to PM me if you wish..
