Nothing against GSU, I have used their law library...but I'm not sure AGD would put a colony there since it is right next to Georgia Tech where Gamma Phi Chapter is going strong. At least that was what one of my GTau sisters was told a few years ago when she inquired.

For one thing, it puts a strain on alumnae resources. In addition to Ga Tech, there's also West Georgia, UGA, Brenau, N. Ga, and Mercer from 40 min. - 1 1/2 hr (depending on how fast you are driving and the traffic, lol!).

If we could get the hundreds of AGD alumnae in the metro Atlanta area to be involved on a consistent basis with all the chapters, there's a possibility.

Of course since I'm not on the colony email list they could be announcing they are colonizing tomorrow, lol!

Humm... They established themselves at the University of Southern Mississippi about 17 years ago (?).. I could be off a year or two... USM is a major commuter campus, with the undergrad population almost equally mixed (traditional/non traditional students). The largest chapter has 94 members. Many students transfer in from community college and many commute from surrounding areas.

I don't pretend to speak for our Executive Office, but I do know that a strong Greek system - be it a traditionally commuter school or not - is what Alpha Delta Pi looks for. Plus, Georgia is considered "turf" for both ADPi and Phi Mu, and there would be tons of other chapters & alumnae groups to lend a hand.

edited to add: I think the Panehellenic code to make sure that ALL chapters are at quota before expansion is terribly wise! Major props to them!

Let me clarify myself....

I was not implying that AGD or Chi-O just throw up chapters everywhere. Sorry if it came out like that. I just meant that it seemed to me that they are pro-active about starting new chapters-looking to see where there would be a need where as other nationals wait to be asked.
Also, my cousin was an ADPi, and she was told by someone at HQ (in my presence)that ADPi didn't want to put chapters at commuter schools any more, especially if there was an already established chapter at a commuter school near by.They apparently don't like to have too many commuter type chapters too close together. That makes sense to me.They just had a commuter school chapter go under a few years ago in that area. She thought about trying to get a chapter going and they told her pretty much to not not bother.Also-as it was mentioned earlier, ther are already TONS of ADPi's in Atlanta and that may drain alumni resources.( Breneau, UGA, Southern Poly, Mercer, Ga.Southern, Emory, and either North or West Ga-I forget.)
Also, GSU does have a dynamic greek system. They are always changing-looks like in a positve way. But, they have much room for growth before adding a new NPC group.Especially since there are some MCGLO's on campus now, women have more choices.
Sorry about the confusion!

I was not offended by your statement at all. I just wanted to clarify a few things and prevent a misunderstanding. I'm glad you think that Alpha Gamma Delta is pro-active...we are very lucky in that we have innovative and wise leadership in our International Council and Volunteer Service Team.
