I am sure there is a good reason why new members can't say what they joined, but why would there be such a restriction?
Anyone?

My organization asks that the new members wear pins. However, because some consider it hazing, they are NOT REQUIRED to wear them. Either way, they are never advised to keep their affiliation quiet.
Doesn't quite matter that they have the option to wear it or not, as far as I know, there hasn't been anybody who feels uncomfortable wearing the pin. As a matter of fact, in my charter, all the new members were looking forward to it.
I guess it just depends on the organization.
