All your wonderful tributes to amazing loved ones makes mine sound a little shallow, but here it goes:
To my friend Sean Baker
At our graduation banquet (prom, in Canada). We were outside, chatting. I've always been self-conscious about myself (I'm working on it!), but felt pretty good that night, being all decked out pretty. Anyway, slowly, guys started to join us, and each one offered a girl his coat ('cause we were freezing, and none of us had any). For I'm sure no reason, no one offered me one (they went to the dates of the guys, obviously, and mine was inside). When Sean came out, he sat down and started talking (he's not always very observant). Then, he looked at me, and, surprised, offered me his coat. We all laughed, cause it had been a couple min., but he just said "every other pretty girl had one, I figured you weren't cold"! It was such a simple thing to say, but so nice.
Later, he asked me to dance to a slow song. No biggie to most people, but it was the first time a guy had ever asked me to dance! While we were dancing, he said again how nice I looked, and how he really meant it! It was so nice. He's pretty popular with the girls, and he's not interested in me romantically, but it all made those acts so much more meaningful!
Sean, your attention and kindness made such an impression on me. you really made me feel special, and made sure that I will always remember that night fondly.
Thank you to all you wonderful guys who are wonderful without realizing it! We love you!
