More numbers for sororities because of Sorority Life?

I was just wondering because it seems like a lot of girls are really interested in the Greek experience now becuase of the show. At my school Pan-Hellenic has like 300 girls signed up for open house ( which is going to be interesting since there are only 3 NPC sororities). It may not make a difference for schools with a lot of Greeks, but at schools like mine where it is a lot smaller involvement it sounds like this could be a help out, as long as the PMNs figure out that everyone's experience is different. Also, I am wondering how Fraternity Life is going to get the guys into it, because I am sick of guys looking for "Animal House" situation and maybe a little better and true protreyal of what is like will get more men who are not in it only for parties interested.

You know, the thought had crossed my mind... because we had lots more girls sign up and go through recruitment this year than in years past. None of them mentioned the show, but I couldn't have helped but wonder if at the very least, pure exposure to the word sorority, if not the show itself, would help plant recruitment in their minds... I really don't know.

I'm guessing there will be no definitive answer to this

greek lovin,
april

i hope so...the one thing i hate about rush is when i get asked "is it just like animal house?"
in truth, its better, but animal house left out a whole lot of the bennifits of joining a fraternity.

The one thing I hate being asked during rush is, "Do I have to date a frat boy?"

Knowing my school, SL will just increase the already elbow-deep anti-Greek sentiment.

I have no idea why Sorority Life would increase the numbers of rushees, although I do agree with the other poster who suggested that it may be pure exposure to the word "sorority."

Frankly, if I didn't have you wonderful girls at GC and only had Sorority Life to glean knowledge from, I would not in a million years consider joining a sorority.

That show is plain scary!

XOXO,
Annie.

As Pi Kapp said.. we do at SFSU have ALOT more girls signed up than usual, so if they all come out on Monday for open house it will be interesting and VERY BENEFICIAL to the chapters on our campus. I'm not sure if it's because of sorority life... I would have to guess it is because I can't think of anything else to explain it... well other than the woman on our campus have done a wonderful job promoting ourselves at our recruitment table

That's funny, I think we had a lot LESS than last year sign up. I can only hypothesize why, but none of it has to do with Sorority Life. I just have no real idea.

Whoa, if they DID join a house because of the Sorority Life or Animal House, surely they joined for a wrong reason!

Well, let's think about this for a second. What are the stereotypes of sorority women? Partiers, yes, but what else? Rich, stuck-up, blond, gorgeous, and dumb all come to mind. The sisters of Sigma were none of these. They were intelligent, they were all shapes and sizes, they were not blond or snooty, and a few of them even wore glasses. And they made it plain that they disapproved of the "Girls Gone Wild" reject behavior displayed by some of the pledges - something the stereotypical sorority girl would not do.

No one on that show - not even the "problem pledges" - fit the prevalent "sorority girl" stereotype at my school (that is, an overly perky blond girl with no brains and an entire wardrobe from Abercrombie & Fitch).

If you take this information and combine it with the fact that women like Jessica and DeDe were initiated, it's not hard to see where some people who hadn't thought about being in a sorority before might consider it after watching this show.

Or maybe I'm just looney.

Sigma had its problems, just like any chapter, but Becca, Leslie, and Leah did me proud!

On my campus (Illinois), not only do we have more rushees this year, but it also seems as though they are looking for different things. Bid Day is tomorrow, and I would not be surprised if at least 16 houses make quota. Rushees are falling in love with all the chapters, not just the prettiest/most popular.

I wonder how the second season of the show will affect the number of women/men rushing at that particular campus?

( I keep forgetting what the campus name is )

I have to admit that the idea of SL affecting recruitment at UC Riverside came to mind. Our school is pretty anti-greek and there aren't a lot of people interested in Greek life when they come to school here. A lot of people are worried that the show will have a negative effect on our numbers, but I really think, after speaking with some students that are interested in Greek life, that the numbers will not be affected...

I hope I'm right!

Ok but I really want a girl that approved of the Girls Gone Wild behavior and is overly perky. I am upset with the Sigmas because now the prudes with brown and black hair will join.
