I understand frustrations here, but they shouldn't really be with NPC. The member organizations voted for this. Just remember that much.
There are A LOT of campuses that do formally structured recruitment with the tiniest open house pools - I'm talking 15 women going through recruitment with 4 chapters, and quota is 3. That's A LOT of work for not much in return.
Also, social media and the media in general are just living off this Alabama rush bullcrap, and when girls in high school see that, they think that's what their rush is going to be like, when in actuality, only a few places have recruitments that are like that zoo.
Many campuses don't want to change to adapt to their new normal. COVID, enrollment cliffs, etc. A campus that once had 150 women going through and quota of 30 now only has 70 women going through and a quota of 14. That's a big change. The campus now has to look at their situation and say, is formally structured recruitment truly the best way for us to recruit members. Maybe moving to a partially structured recruitment will engage more women to participate. Maybe continuous recruitment will work more effectively.
The fact remains that if campuses don't adapt to their changing greek life environment and think that the same thing they did 15 years ago is still going to work, they're missing the boat.
As for total numbers, what is on the NEW 2026-2027 recruitment thread is accurate for totals for campuses that use some form of NPC recruitment. AGDee, if you have a question, feel free to PM me.

The thing is there is a hell of a lot of choices in between Ole Miss rush and continuous COB aka the Wild West. I think too many people want to throw the baby out with the bath water when doing a few simple things like having a schedule of parties can make a huge difference.

I have to wonder the thinking from groups who voted for it and whether they're taking into account campuses that have deferred recruitment.
What I see with the chapter I support, with formal recruitment in the Spring and COB in the Fall, is that the members find COB and the pressure to be at total when they're recruiting upperclassmen totally exhausting especially after having just had a large group of women graduate or leave campus, so they don't put in the effort and they aren't effective at it.
We have a lot of desperate conversations with ECs who always pull out the "quality over quantity" argument and are completely and totally willing to give up good standing in order to not have to do one more COB party for 2 potential new members that they already do not want to extend a bid to (and honestly, I don't blame them). And this is generally a high-performing chapter both on campus and among chapters of similar sizes within the national org. At least when there's some CPC support around the activities, the chapters feel like they're in it together and have some support from the Greek community.

This type of fall COB shouldn't have anything to do with recruiting - as in going in fresh. These parties and the resulting pledge class should be full of women the chapter already knows - the dorm neighbor, the teammate, the classmate, the coworker- who were unsure about Greek life but who have changed their minds since getting to know actual sorority women. Or who were afraid to rush for fear college would be too hard (and it wasn't). Or whose HTH wouldn't "allow" them to rush and she’s now woken up to the fact that he's s jerk and has lots more free time since dumping his ass.
And if every single member can't name someone like that to invite to an open bid party they need to broaden their social circle and extracurricular activities.

I have ruminated on this new policy for awhile now and I have some thoughts
1. Why 40? Was this an arbitrary number or is it based in some reason? Is 40 members the financial break even point for most NPC organizations? To me, 40 seems dismissive of directional, commuter, and satellite campuses. Is an organization that does not have members deficient in some way? Did NPC provide any insight as to the number 40?
2. On smaller satellite campuses where many students are beginning their college careers due to rising costs on main campuses, is this minimum total going to hinder the growth of Greek Life instead of help it. Will sororities decide that these smaller campuses aren't worth the effort if enrollment does not support chapter totals of 40?
3. Will NPC organizations close chapters that are far below the minimum total? Chapter XYZ has 22 members and is the largest one on campus, then we have PDF with 15 members, OMG with 13 members, YU with 9 members and OK with 8 members..will YU and OK close those chapters due to low membership? Is there a policy for that too, now?
I guess with all of the talk of making Greek life accessible to everyone why is NPC setting a minimum campus total? I feel like it's not really furthering the "let's make greek life more accessible" agenda. It's telling organizations that regardless of your chapter GPA, how many service hours you log, or how strong your sisterhood is...you aren't good enough because you don't have 40 members.
[stepping off the soapbox now]
