Needlepoint
Has anyone here ever done a needlepoint project before?
I find I have an abundance of spare time and I just ordered a kit to try and do my sorority’s crest. I’ve watched a few videos but I’ve never done a stitch in my life.

I've done a few, but that was many years ago. Once you get the hang of it (doing the detail work first, then the background), it's very relaxing,

I've done needlepoint crests as well as cross stitch crests for myself, my husband, and friends. The best advice can give is to count and recount your stitches

My love of needlework started when I received a small kit at Christmas when I was 10 and I have been hooked ever since. It was a butterfly and is probably somewhere in my parents' attic. I have done several college crests in either needlepoint or cross-stitch.
I would recommend finding a nearby needlepoint shop and ask if they give lessons or host sit and stitch sessions. You may have to pay for this since you didn't buy the kit at their shop.
I would suggest that you do the crest itself in continental/tent stitch but the background color in Hungarian stitch,

Thank you so much for the stitching suggestions!
I’ve only done a key fob before, so this is going to be a big project.

I've been cross stitching and doing needlepoint for years. It can be very relaxing, unless you have curious cats
