Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. - The Nurse's Sorority
Greetings from Baltimore, MD. Hello, my name is Erin and I am a Registered Nurse and a member of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated, a 93 year old Greek letter service organization founded on the campus of Howard University (at Howard Hospital originally known as Freedman's Hospital.) On October 16th 1932, Aliene Carrington Ewell and 11 other African American nurses founded the sorority to create a network for black nurses due to limited resources available at the time because of segregation and unfair hiring practices as well as to raise funds for nursing students and to provide health care in the community. Today there are nearly 10,000 members in graduate and undergrad chapters around the country. One must be a registered nurse, a nurse practitioner or enrolled in an RN program to be considered for membership. Fun facts: our founder was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and many of our members have joint membership in NPHC (Divine 9) organizations. Our colors are green and yellow 💚💛; our flowers are white chrysanthemum💮 and Ivy 🌿; our mascot is a turtle 🐢and our motto is Service for Humanity. Male nurses may join as well( our Fraters) Look us up!
