I just think it’s like.. ew! I’ve only ever associated it with athletes who thought spraying half the can made up for skipping a shower. I was around them constantly in college, like for cheer practices, bus rides, and like training rooms, and the scent just stuck. Literally. In my hair. My bag. My trauma. Try being stuck on a bus for 6 hours with Axe-spraying linebackers and no escape.
It doesn’t smell like “clean.” It smells like someone trying really hard to smell clean. I dated a football player who was obsessed with Axe. Every time I was around him, I’d start sneezing. I eventually told him I didn’t think it was a good idea that we keep dating. I swear, Axe made him smell like BO with confidence. So gross.
I couldn’t do it. I broke up with him because my sinuses deserved better.
