I was on Instagram this morning looking at some fraternity postings, and as I scrolled out, this video on TABOO entitled “dirtyrushpodcast” popped up. It was some college-age girls trashing sorority recruitment, “dirty” rush, etc. There was a bit older lady who was sort of moderating.
This may be old news to most of you—I didn’t watch anything other than the introduction.

Amongst all the rush hype I have seen a lot of people who got dropped from recruitment and such speak on their experiences. I understand it can be extremely painful to get rejected like that but this is years later!

Just catching up and read your post. Very few PNMs are actually released from recruitment, rather, their favorites don’t ask them back, they don’t like their remaining choices, and they withdraw from recruitment.

Additionally, the “released” PNMs might be using the wrong terminology. A very confused mom on a FB page I help admin insisted her daughter was released. Come to find out daughter had two invitations for pref, but had not been invited back to her favorite of the three she had visited the previous round and no amount of reasoning convinced the mom that her daughter was NOT released-she chose not to attend her pref parties.

True I forgo to differentiate between the super rare release and “I didn’t like my choices so I withdrew.” For a full blown release 90% of the time it’s grade related (a la Morgan as we later found out.) or being that much of a liability.

The bolded part is what happened to my PNM this year. Just talked to her mother on Sunday, and she's thinking that DarlingDaughter had a case of FOMO. More's the pity. Had she complied with the system, I really think that DD would have gotten the bid of her choice. But then again, IDK how she behaved when she first got on campus.
