And when you say "they're not really Greek" - "their rush is stupid" - etc. etc. - do you realize how much that plays up to every "sorority girls are snobs" stereotype? And yes I say girls, because I've seen very little bashing from the guys on here.
I went to the sorority interest meeting, and one of the girls answering questions from us PNM's said, "they're just a local chapter. Local chapters aren't real sororities. They're just clubs playing greek." I wasn't impressed by that. Especially since we have a local at our school, and they are as close to each other as the girls in the NPC sororities, even if they are smaller. And, since these girls are brand new, they've had to do A LOT of work to get started, so deserve even more respect. I've talked to the girl one on one, and she is very sweet and down to earth, but that comment not only made me question her sincerity and snobbishness (is that a word?) but the attitudes of sorority women in general. It made me happy when she later apologized for the comment because she realized that it sounded as though she were looking on non-NPC groups.

I've developped a lot of respect for GLOs because of the threads I've read on here, and by seeing the way that women from different groups are usually very respectful and sweet to one another. I agree that these girls have put themselves in the public eye. Personally, I don't watch the show because as soon as I saw it advertised, I figured it would be an insult to any girls in sororities I know. And so it has, from what I hear. Most of us PNM's aren't naive - we know that it's edited, and we know that the majority of sorority women are nothing like the "edited" version of the girls in the show. What we are watching and paying attention to is your reaction to the show, and how differing opinions cause you to react to each other.

By the way, how sad is it that MTV is supposed to be entertainment, and yet their corporate mission statement states their mission is to "shape the opinions and political views of American young people"??
