When and how are line names chosen? Non-collegiate Sororities

Just like the title says:

When and how are line names chosen? I always see so many cool names and just wonder about it. Curious minds (me lol) want to know!!

I’m specifically curious about non-collegiate sororities that were founded by, are primarily comprised of black women and, (as far as I know), operate in a similar fashion as the D9 orgs do…but disclaimer — I’m not nor have I ever been affiliated with a D9 org, even though in my younger years it was my dream to pledge one in undergrad. I do have friends who are though.

Are they revealed to you before you cross? If so, at what point during intake? Who chooses them? How do they choose them?

I know some about pledging…probably more than most asking this question since I started the process a few years ago but dropped for a number of reasons.

In the past year though, I’ve seriously been researching various orgs and have it narrowed down to just a few non-collegiate ones since I’m way beyond undergrad and a grad chapter of a D9 doesn’t fit into my life right now, but I want to fulfill my dreams of sisterhood.

I’m doing it this year. Summer or fall intake is my goal!!
