If I'm not mistaken, it is the root of the English word "dogma," which means (among other things) a system of principles or teachings. My dictionary shows this etymology for dogma:

[< L < Gk, equiv. to dok(ein) (to) seem, think, seem good + -ma n. suffix]

This would seem to suggest that the meaning is something along the idea of "teaching" or "sound thinking."

Hope this helps.
