I thought I would add some of the cheers we do at Long Beach...

Our favorite cheer is called OOOOOHHHHHH!!!!

(we get in a big huddle and throw our right fists in the air and yell OOOOHHHHHHHHH!!!!!, then when the cheer starts we hit our fist on the palm of our other hand in beat with the chant, and during certain words punch our fist back in the air)

OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH.......
Oh Gamma Phi Beta
Oh Gamma Phi Beta
Oh Gamma Phi Beta the BEST (punch) sorority
And you can surely bet
That we're so glad we met
We like to thank you for such happy memories
Come on and join along
Come on and sing our song
Come on and lift your voices
And we'll be riding high
Ask any guy you know
And he will tell you so
The only way to go is dear ol' Gamma Phi hey! (punch)
G-A-M-M-A (spell out), Gamma Phi Beta hey! (punch)
Gamma Phi, Gamma Phi, Gamma Phi Beta! (punch and cheer!!!!)

Another cheer is RED HOT

(Someone yells) Gamma Phis are what?
(Everyone answers) Red hot!
(Someone yells) Gamma Phis are what?
(Everyone answers) Red hot!
(All together) Gamma Phis are R. clap E. clap D. clap
With a little bit of H. clap O. clap T. (clap,clap,clap)
R.E.D. with an H.O.T. (spell out)
Red hot, red hot, red hot!!!

This cheer is called Red Hot Tomatoes

We're the Gamma Phi Betas ugh,
We're the red hot tomatoes (pronounced tomatas) ugh,
We get all the boys and we treat 'em like toys
We're the Gamma Phi Betas ugh!!
(Just for fun, not to be serious)

If any one has any questions on these write me back

Love in IIKE,
Misha

Those are cute, Misha! Maybe I can make it up to Gamma Eta's recruitment and hear those chants in person!

I'm an alumna initiate with USD - Epsilon Gamma chapter...but I actually attended Long Beach State. Go Beach!!!

HOLY CRAP! I thought my chapter was the only chapter that ever sang this - whenever we've sang it at RLC or other stuff, the girls have thought we were crazy. We sing it on bid day in a circle around our new members doing a kickline.

old songs

Hi all,

This is my first post to the forum - as I've just discovered it. I was Ritual/Song Chair in the last golden days of Phi Chapter in St. Louis, back in the eighties. I still have our songbook and remember many of the old songs (including ones with dirty lyrics). If anyone would like some of those, you're welcome to PM or email me.

Jeffe

Welcome Jeffe!

I got your email and be sure to introduce yourself.

I forgot to say in my email that Amy (Sirull) Tuvey is up here in WA too. She's also a member of my alumnae chapter.

(I still have a lot of those songs to....)

You didn't sing "Remember"???

Remember . . .Gamma Phi Beta
Rememer when you're away.
Remember . . . Gamma Phi Beta
And don't forget . . .to come back some day.

Remember . . . the pink carnation
The crescent in the sky.
And keep truly ever with you
the memory of dear old Gamma Phi.
(We'll remember you . . . _

And . . .

There are eyes of blue,
there are dark eyes too,
there are eyes of every color and of every hue,
but I surmise, if you are wise,
you'll just beware
a roaming pair
of roguish eyes.

There's old DG,
there's Alpha Phi,
There's Kappa, Chi Omega and there's KAT,
but I surmise,
if you are wise,
you'll want to wear
the crescent fair
of Gamma Phi.

Songs/Cheers

Could someone send me a PM with the dirty songs or songs in general that we have. My friend was just @ UIFI [maybe?] and she only knew a couple of the songs that the other GPhis were singing. Our chapter isn't too into the song thing and we're trying to change that next year for rush! Thanks girls!

Mine are somewhere in boxes because I am moving right now, but I think some of the other women should be able to help you out!

When is your chapter having recruitment school? If you would like I could actually come teach some songs, although I have a terrible singing voice!

I believe she may be referring to me since I sent her copies of ones that I have. However, mine are in the same state as hers at the moment. Assuming I remember, I will dig them out after I move this weekend.

Cheer

I found this one watching a YouTube video of Gamma Phis doing a rope pull at Greek Week - it would be great for athletic competitions!

U-N-I-T-Y - (pull that rope) for Gamma Phi!

Replace "pull that rope" with the appropriate sports action (dunk that ball! hit that ball, etc.)

Here's another lovely cheer that the girls at Arizona State use:

We are the Gamma Phi Betas from ASU
We're here to shout, we're here to show
We are the best house on the row
So clap your hands and stomp your feet
Boogie along to the G-Phi Beat

G-A-MM-A P-H-I B-E-T-A (low voice) *Someone asks: "Who"*
G-A-MM-A P-H-I B-E-T-A (medium voice) *Another Person: "I Can't Hear You"
G-A-MM-A P-H-I B-E-T-A (extremely loud...think cheerleader)

(loud voice) We are the Gamma Phi Betas from ASU!

My Fav song

I am from Gamma Rho and for recruitment this year we added on a second verse to one of my fav songs of our it called "tonight" it is actually the only song i truly remembered when I went to recruitment!!

Tonight as the crescent moon shines in the sky
I’ll dream of a love found in dear Gamma Phi
A million tomorrows will all pass away,
E’re we forget the true friendships we’ve made Tonight

Oh I will be loyal and show that care
You'll know who I am by the pin that I wear
to each of my sisters I'll always be true
and share all my joys and my friendship with you Tonight

Our adviser had never heard the new verse or knew we added anything till pref night and she almost cried when she heard it!!

I would agree that's my fav as well. But I've only ever heard with both verses...

My chapter always liked "Tonight" as well, and we sang both verses too. But we always tended to speed up on the second verse and had to make the effort to keep it a slow song instead of too sing-songy
