I don't understand why they still have a definition of a legacy if it doesn't matter if they're a legacy anymore. There are no benefits.

Legacies will still be defined as any daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, stepdaughter, sister or stepsister of an initiated member of Alpha Phi, but chapters will now treat them equally to every other potential new member during the recruitment process."

They also said that Alpha Phi has no rec requirement/policy and encouraged chapters to assess their practices to ensure that recs are not required or cause preferential treatment.

Definitely a step in the right direction. Let's hope there's more to come.
That's convenient! Now they can cut all the unattractive legacies after first round. No more wasting invites on those women who won't meet their standards.

So true. What's the point of even recognizing someone is a legacy if there are no benefits to it?

Two positives about legacies being defined and identified: legacies tend to strongly understand the ins&outs of sorority life and recruitment thru their sorority connection(s). And a chapter may choose to match a rusher legacy with a rushing legacy during recruitment.

Between three Pi Phi women I know of there are eight daughters, NONE of which joined Pi Phi despite a Pi Phi chapter being available on each campus. Those who've read GC over the years know carnation also has no Pi Phi sister to treasure among her numerous legacies.

But however an NPC group chooses to define/redefine legacies, there never has been an automatic lock that said legacies have been asked to join their legacy group.
