I was told (although I don’t see it written down) that everyone that SIPed and was not matched WAS offered a snap bid to sonewhere

If 1253 signed a MRABA and 73 SIPed and were not matched, that would leave 1180 bids; but would the 1188 Bids Received number then indicate that eight women accepted a snap bid? Or that only 8 of the 73 were offered a snap bid?

73 snap bids were offered? If that was the case, then not many accepted?

Suicides can't get Snap Bids. COB, yes, but not Snap.

Ok...thank you because I was when I read that; but, IU is often in another league when it comes to recruitment quirks, so I had to ask. ForeverRoses specifically stated:

So, maybe she meant to say they were offered COB bids because snap bids doesn't make any sense in this context. Even then, 73 COB bids offered between how many chapters? That seems like a lot.

This is not correct. Those who SIP and fail to receive a bid to their desired chapter ARE eligible for snap bids. They just aren't eligible for quota additions. It's always been like this in RFM. See page 136 of the current Green Book.
• Women listing intentional single preferences on their membership recruitment acceptance binding agreement (MRABA) are eligible for snap bidding.

Is that a new thing with RFM? When I went through rush (yes, it was still called rush back in the Mesozoic Era) people who SIP'd were not eligible for snap bids. But it's entirely possible that Panhel on my campus didn't have a complete understanding of the rules.

correct. Not many of the snap bid invitations were accepted unfortunately. I guess some of the snap bid/SIP women were holding out for informal recruitment. Which for most of the participating chapters opened and closed in the blink of an eye.
Even with all of the changes in the past few years at IU, it is still competitive recruitment, mid-west style. With a quota of 56 and average chapter size around 200, if you don't have an open mind and you are stuck in a tier mentality of "I just didn't fit with them" then you may not end up Greek at all.
