Some take spring pledge classes and some don't. It depends on the group and how many they lose after the first semester.
Your best bet is to make friends with a wide variety of men, including those in fraternities. Express your interest in finding a group of brothers, and if someone asks you to visit their house, do so. Almost all fraternity bids at UA are extended informally. Very few pledge via formal recruitment. Being a sophomore is not a detriment.
