Article about the beginning of recruitment at Eastern Illinois University. The article mentions that just over 90 women are going through recruitment, down from 300 women 4 years ago.

According to some GCers last year, this is because of an overall drop in enrollment at EIU due to budget cuts from the state.

Without getting too far off-topic, this has been a problem for all the Illinois state schools besides UIUC. Here's a Chicago Tribune article about it. Chicago State, which has NPHC groups and Sigma Lambda Gamma, has had it even worse, enrolling just 86 first-time freshmen last year.

If I were working at one of those schools in Greek life I would not be looking at expansion any time soon, because the enrollment numbers won't be able to support it.

The overall numbers shown for groups at South Carolina are consistent with what I've heard from other sources, but can you elaborate on where the quota numbers came from? I understood from the Panhellenic President there right after recruitment that quota was 96 for freshman and 20 for upperclassmen for 116.

Thanks!

Yes, I know people who live near there. They have said that the university is running on shoestring budget and staff. They are having to be creative in staffing; hiring people who only want to work part time, don't need insurance (have military insurance or spouse carries the family, etc), lots of associate instructors, etc. It really is a sad situation throughout the state.

Where are the Illinois students going? Are they going to schools in Indiana? So sad for EIU. I thought the funding had been restored.

I went to grad school at EIU, and currently have a brother on staff there. Funding was restored this summer, so the staff and faculty are cautiously optimistic. I have family and friends who work at other colleges, and they are also optimistic. Chicago State has other problems unrelated to funding, so their path to recovery may be difficult.

My stepson graduated from a town very close to Charlestown, and many in his class went to schools in Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin. He bucked the trend and stayed in Illinois. He's at DePaul.

A timely article in this morning's Chicago Tribune re: our budget stalemate and declining enrollments/ranks at Illinois universities.

Hope we can find the numbers for CSULB's DZ and AOPi chapters. I'm guessing that quota was 28-30?

The dates for EMU's recruitment are wrong. They are September 14-17.
