italianaxo-That article gave me GOOSEBUMPS!
I want the girls living together to sit down and establish some house rules on safety.
The actions of ONE will affect the safety of all.

I REMEMBER how trusting I was in college. I honestly PRAY my daughter has more sense than I did!

My boyfriend and I were talking about a night we walked all around campus in the middle of the night because we were in the middle of a fight, and didn't want to stay in the dorm lobby to talk (check-out was 1am). We felt we were safe because "its Baton Rouge, nothing ever happens here"

Probably one of the stupidest thiings I did as a freshman. Now, I won't even go to the rec center after dark!

Yeah...I had one of those nights. Freshman year my parents sent me to LSU without a car so I either had to walk everywhere or get my roommate to take me places. One night I had to go to the Union to see a concert for Mus 1751 and she was busy so I walked from Graham to the Union. Going through the Quad at like 10 pm was the scariest moment of my entire life. I was so afraid that someone would jump out of the bushes and attack me. NEVER have I ever done something that stupid again.

I just found this page with links to all the Advocate articles.

http://www.theadvocate.com/s_killings/index.shtml

One week until I move back - My fears had subsided a bit, but now I'm getting scared out of my mind again.

I love how they keep talking about "campus safety." Um, sorry, but none of these murders were on campus and most students don't live on campus. I don't care if the doors on the dorms are card-accessed (they've been that way for years and there are still a million ways to get around them); I want them to find this creep!

Hi everyone, I spent my first night back at LSU, and I was actually calm. I watched the safety session on channel nine the other night and it was helpful for teaching me how to defend myself if I were attacked.

Thanks for the link, juniorgrrl. Ya'll have probably read this article about the man who 4 days after Pace was murdered got into her house and looked around trying to find answers. He said he was trying to defend his family by knowing details that the police would not tell. (It was in that link) He got in through a window that was partially opened. Once again, I am SO impressed by the BR Police. I mean, come on, it was a kitchen window, I thought they would have checked things like that to secure the crime scene. (but I don't know all the details)

I have been keeping in touch with the man that I posted his email earlier and asked him a few questions about the recent attempted kidnappings. This is what he sent me...

I am trying to keep up with the case, but the police are keeping a pretty tight rein on the information.

While some killers do not change the location where they target victims, some serial killers do. For example, William Heirens in Chicago and Albert DeSalvo in Boston ALWAYS attacked their victims inside their homes, but Bundy did not. Bundy's first victim was abducted from her bed. Other victims were contacted on the street and beach. During his final days at large, he again returned to his old habit of attacking women indoors.

To attack a girl at a mall is much different that what he has done previously because there is a high risk that someone might get his license number or be able to recognize him. If he was the serial killer, it might mean that he was high on booze or drugs, or that he is psychologically disintegrating.

P.S.
Serial killers like to abduct victims and dispose of their bodies at places which are familiar to them. We call it their "Comfort Zone." Some killers do move frequently from place to place as they murder women to avoid apprehension and detection, but many of them remain in the same general geographical area for long periods of time while they continue to kill. Most of them enjoy the notoriety that they receive.

Oftentimes the need to kill is like a drug fix for them. The tension in their body builds until they kill ... then they are perfectly calm. This calm lasts for a time and then begins to build again. Like drug addicts who need more drugs to satisfy their habit, the time between the serial killings diminishes between each of the killings. EWKJ

I have also done some pretty stupid things at LSU as a freshman. I went jogging, with a friend, around the lakes last semester. I didn't realize that it was as late as it was or that it is really far around the entire trail, and it started to get dark. I had my mace and like I said, I was with a friend, but I still think that it was not a smart thing to do. Thank God nothing happened to us.

Today, I saw a girl jogging alone with headphones on. I was seriously thinking about stopping her and asking if she had been living under a rock for the past couple of months.

As usual, my posts are forever long......

I was talking with the mother of a KD and she said her daughter (a soph) was moving into the house. She asked if mine was-nope an apt. "Oh too bad!" was her response "You know, safety in numbers!" Thanks soooooo much Mom for that comforting thought! Their policy is- not until you are a JUNIOR!

ANYway- She left yesterday to stay with a sister, we are driving over later today to bring up the rest of her things. I guess Dad and I will check the windows and doors, do some Catholic things like sprinkle Holy Water, say a few prayers and trust in their instincts. WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO??? I really wish she had the time to take a self defense course, but I feel pretty certain there will be HUGE discussions about this situation for a long while.

ThetaLove your posts are WONDEFUL!

Juniorgrrl & TigerGirl, somehow, I don't feel so isolated when I hear from you guys. I know that you know the ropes and she wouldn't let on about her worries. When I read your thoughts and feelings, it helps me know where her head is at. She tries to act so brave...

Justamom--

Have no fear!!! You know we'll keep you updated. I'm thinking that Greek Affairs will probably put on a seminar about safety considering that Charlotte Murray Pace was greek as well as Christine Moore. They would be stupid not to do that. The president of my chapter and I talked the other night and we're going to go out and buy mace for every sister. You can never be too safe.

I think you as a mother can have a really strong voice in this as well. If you see something around your daughter's apartment that you feel is unsafe...call the management. My mom really disliked the tall shrubs in front of my door. So she is calling the office at my complex to complain. If I were you...I would also complain to LSU about safety on campus. I mean...they just spent $65,000 on a logo we didn't need when they could have increased the amount of street lights we have on campus as well as increase the number of police. I know the murders didn't occur on campus but I will bet money on the fact that this guy is just chomping at the bit for school to start. I think the murders will only increase with the start of school.

I know we're all really uneasy about everything that has happened lately but for some reason I just can't imagine your daughter coming back to school unprepared. With a mom like you...I know she's got a good head on her shoulders. Tell her to use common sense and go with her gut instinct at all times.

Alright I did it!!!!! I got so fed up last night that I filed a complaint. Last night around 7 pm my roommate and I walked to the convenience store right across the street from our apartment. Well there were two EBR Parish Sherriff's Office cars sitting out front with 4 deputies leaned up on the cars. So anyways...they watched us as we were approaching the store. Then decided that they would flirt with us. Then they watched us while we were in the store and while we were at the counter paying for our stuff. Then when we came out of the store they watched us once again and flirted a little more heavily. Oh and when I say watched I mean that they were checking us both out. So anyways...it left both my roommate and I feeling really creeped out. So I thought about it for about an hour and decided that it had sufficiently pissed me off so I was going to call the cops. So I call the station and file my complaint only to be told that I have to call back today to talk to Internal Affairs so that they can start an investigation.

Anyways...I'm honestly really proud of myself. I know that the whole thing doesn't seem like such a big deal but I felt that they could have been doing their job instead of trying to flirt with every college-age girl that passed by. Their job is to serve and protect and I don't feel they were doing either last night by being outside of that convenience store. So hey...if y'all hear of an investigation into what they're doing in Tigerland on a nightly basis...you'll know who started it!!!!

OK, this is getting crazier and crazier- Three kidnapping attemps
by a stinking man wearing workboots a cap and driving 3 different vehicles?!? All in broad daylight and with him tryng to grab/carry off OR pounding on doors???

This guy is all tied up inside and sounds desperate to complete wahtEVER he plans on doing. They don't know if it's connected...

TigerGirl-I'm glad you did that! It took a lot of nerve to follow through. Three cheers for you!

I have such a strong respect for policemen and firefghters (ever since I was a kid) it bothers me so much to see a few tarnish the image of the whole. We all need to feel the utmost trust in them, nd if you were made to feel uncomfortable, I am SURE there were others. You seem far, FAR too level headed to jump to conclusions!

Thanks greeklettergirl and justamom. I've just gotten fed up with what seems like a lack of concern on the part of law enforcement in this town. My roommate and I don't normally find flirting and playful behavior creepy but I just didn't appreciate that they were at the gas station trying to flirt instead of out patrolling our neighborhood that is about to be absolutely FULL of college kids.

I called this morning and was told that some Corporal would call me back but he hasn't. It's been almost 6 hours since I made that call. I think I'm going to try again. They just don't know yet who they're dealing with!!!!!!!!

I'm so proud of you Tigergirl!!! Another attempted kidnapping. This one in the same neighborhood as Pam Kinamore's home. Luckily the woman sprayed him with pepper spray and right now, the police are looking for the suspect. God I hope they find him. First I heard it was a white truck that he drove, but later I think they said it was a white van. I'm unsure though. Some of the victims families have contacted Americas Most Wanted.

Hey! I just saw that stuff about the attempted kidnapping in Briarwood. Channel 9 said that he was driving a white van but who knows.
