I played the flute 7-9th grade. I was a natural and was super at it - not trying to brag, because at the time, I didn't see how good I was - I just hated it all the time 'cause of my band director who would yell "JUDAS PRIEST" at us if someone messed up. Plus my best friend wouldn't speak to me for a year because we had to have a competition for each instrument to see who would be first chair, and I always won while she would be 5th or 6th - it is a very sad memory What is even worse is that I gave it up. Now I can't play a note on it. I've thought about taking lessons again, but who has the time? And of course I was a spoiled rotten brat who didnt' want a used one - so my parents shelled out $400 bucks for a brand new one with a pretty blue velvet case because they thought it would keep me playing. How many times has that thought bothered me!

On a happier note - I loved being in colorguard. I did flag my first year, and rifle and flag my senior year. I still have both (and play with them more than I'd like to admit). I used to love to make up routines and stuff. And yes I hated the boots, but what I hated more was the tacks we had to put in the bottom to make us "click" when we marched, and the huge ball of green & white yarn we had to tie to the front. Of course the suntan colored hose on all our pasty white legs were very attractive also

I'm representing for all of the clarinets!!

One more question... Do you think you can still play a song? (Drummers don't count !)
I began playing the clarinet in the 6th grade and was quite good until they started throwing music at me every which way I looked. I wanted to play the drums but my mama did not want to "hear all that noise." Anyway I played what my daddy played.

I remember we played the theme songs from Peter Gunn, Sanford & Son, Cosby Show (one of the seasons), and some other tunes.

My kids will play INSTRUMENTS, at least 2 per kid. Piano for all. I might give birth to the next Alicia Keys or Roberta Flack.

I was a voice major for a few years in college, but I played Trombone for about 8 weeks in 5th grade if that counts!
Phew! A DCI fan! I have a lot of old finals tapes: 89, 92, 97, 99, 00 and 01.

This year sucked. Cavaliers won without even playing music, BD played Channel One Suite and got 2nd and Madison missed finals for the first time in a while.

I'll one-up you on the non-girly instruments ...

I was a percussionist for 11 years.

I started in 6th grade, played all through junior high and high school, and went on to major in percussion and music ed. in college. At the end of college, I decided I wanted nothing to do with being a professional percussionist and went to library school and started studying voice. I still sing, and I'm thinking about maybe playing percussion in a community orchestra when I move.

I played the piano for a little over 4 years, but I never practiced, so it basically became a waste of money when I'd go into my private lesson and have to play the same piece I was supposed to practice during the entire lesson! Thus, I stopped taking lessons. I've also played the recorder in elementary school like everyone else...does that count?!

If I could learn one instrument now, I'd love to learn how to play the guitar.

I play piano, saxophone, and clarinet. Clarinet is my main instrument, though! I've played up until this year - 2 years in the University of Tennessee band. But I'm giving it up this coming year. Yah for band geeks!

Hmm. let's see. Flute, piccolo, & one semester of oboe in symphonic band, tenor sax and soprano sax in jazz band, and tim toms in marching band. When I was a senior in high school I had a little fan club of some freshmen guys in band, cause I was the cheerleader that played the drums.
