33girl, thanks for bringing up the topic. I agree with Corbin Dallas. There are no quotas. Fraternity and Sorority Rush are two totally different worlds. I never really understood sorority rush myself as an active. For guys at my school we had rush both in the fall and in the spring. Some Fraternities had a one night or two night formal invite kind of thing but it varied with each chapter. I thought most of the events were pretty casual and not much of a formality which it made it easier on both the brothers and the rushees. I believe that Rush really is 365 days a year. I'm not sure if the quota thing would work for guys but it some ways I think it would help many fraternities if the rush schedule was more structured like the girls have it. So that you can see and spend adequate time with all the fraternities during Rush. Who knows maybe Panhel and IFC could work together to improve rush for guys. When I rushed it seemed like many of the fraternites made it so you had to choose who you wanted to hang out with and that kind of limited you during the week. My campus had 16 fraternities. Not that I am saying I'm not happy who I am a part of. I am very proud Beta Theta Pi. I suppose you could hang out in the summer or during non rush periods too if you were serious enough about rushing. Theres nothing really stopping you from calling a particular Fraternities house. Another thought I had was that each fraternity has their own image, ideals, and what kind of standards they want to set. How the rushee's chemistry is when they are with the brothers, how they gel and what they plan to contribute to your Fraternity. Will they be there for the long haul or are they just there for the parties. Some chapters like lots of numbers and some chapters dont. It all really depends.
