I don't think what you've said is at all rude. It's nice of you to check in and introduce yourself. School always has to come first. I would find it odd if you DID affiliate as a 5th year senior. So yes, say hello, introduce yourself to your alumnae association. And don't forget to update your address and email with your sorority headquarters.
