These posts are too funny. I have to admit that I dropped a chapter because they did a MASH theme and they all wore army fatigues and painted their faces green and brown. It was so ugly and depressing! In their skit they even had people pretend to operate and they had fake blood and everything! Other rushees around me loved it and I was getting nauseous.
On pref night I was totally already sold on ADPi but I still had to go to two other chapters prefs. At XYZ chapter they had four girls who were voice majors and they were concentrating in opera. I was unlucky enough to be sitting right in front of them while they sang pref songs in their full operatic voices. My head was pounding by the time I got out of there!

ill admit i pledged sigma kappa, because we are the only sorority on our campus to not have a delta letter in their name. we have adpi, agd, azd, and dz. i was like, "wow this sorority is original, cuz it doesnt have a delta." i was so stupid. but oh well, thats the past. now i love all our glos on my campus no matter what letters they are!

LOL, this cracks me up.
A girl from Florida Tech who I spoke to before coming to campus told me that dues were like, $900/semester and I freaked. So right away I checked out the prices of the sororities. At first I was like hey, XYZ is cheaper than ABC. And then I said to myself, you moron it's like 13 bucks difference.
My roommate immediately was anti-Gamma Phi Beta (the only other sorority on campus at the time) because all the cheerleaders were Alpha Phis, and she wanted to be a cheerleader.

I'm definitely guilty of not giving some a try for superficial reasons...
We don't have formal recruitment on my campus, but there were several sororities I didn't even consider for pretty silly reasons(aside from the fact that most of them are locals and haze their new members like crazy). One of the sororities' letters spell POT and I just couldn't imagine walking around with POT on a shirt or jacket. Another has a sigma in its name, but for some reason everyone refers to the sigma as an "E" for their nickname. It just kinda bothered me, like how Delta Xi Omega's nickname is D ZO instead of DXiO. Oh, and another's colors are lime greenish-yellow(not sure of the exact color) and brown. Great reasons, I know.
Anyway, I know I ended up where I belong and I love all my sisters.

I was Kappa all the way, but how I choose my other GLO was silly. I really wanted to suicide Kappa but was advised not to. I put KKG for my 1st 2 choices and put another GLO as my 3rd choice. I really liked the one I didn't list a little better than the one I did list, but a cousin was an alum of the GLO I listed, so I figured family counted for something. However, her brother's wife was an alum of the one I didn't list, so I guess it wouldn't have mattered. It was a moot point anyway 'cause I got my wish!

Didn't cut...
but I wanted to put a little turtle on my nametag because it's been my favorite type of creature forever and then when I went to the DZ party I almost fell over when I saw all the turtles and kept thinking, "my god this is my kind of place!" Glad I didn't put the turtle on my tag though, that would have been soooo bad!

Looking back, I remember the reason why I cut one chapter on the first day was because I was afraid these two girls I had met through a guy I was seeing (who happened to be sisters) hated me (they barely knew who I was) and would cut me first. So I hd to "beat them to it" or something. I probably wouldn't have cut them if I had met a few more people, including my current best friend who is an alum of their chapter. First impressions make a difference... but I love my chapter more than anything.
I actually had a hard time during pref because, and this is so shallow, the room decorations during pref night. The first chapter, Alpha Chi, had slightly fewer members than Gamma Phi, and though the room sizes were identical (this was on campus in general meeting rooms), they had more space in the room, allowing for more decoration and detail, like lattices, lots of lights, little tables here and there, etc. The room was amazing and had this beautiful arbor as we walked in. I was taken away. Then I went to Gamma Phi: who were stuck with the long, straight tables (as opposed to the small and circular ones) and had a larger number of members in the room. It was horribly cramped, I was nearly sitting on the girls next to me, and there was no space whatsoever for the ritual at the end of the night. But I finally realized that it wasn't about the decorations, it was about the people! I could only seriously name two of the girls I'd met in Alpha Chi (and one was so scary to me for so long, but now we're friends) and I knew, like, KNEW, so many Gamma Phis... the choice became clear.

well, i knows that tons of girls like one sorority on our campus because they're 'more Greek sorority looking' than the rest of us. and it's so funny. . .every year, they get like 15 pledges but by the time initiation rolls around, they have maybe 3 left. . .and then, half of the chapter disappears

I'm kinda the oppostie of this whole thread -- I went into Phi Mu kicking and screaming because I HATE pink. I just remember thinking how cool everyone was, and why couldn't the colors be something else! The people won out, of course.
I still hate pink.

I may have told this before--
My roommate cut one sorority because the girl rushing her spent the whole party telling my roomie how to make a rhubarb pie (my roomie could have given a flying flip about cooking)
So she went Alpha Gam - they were a small, but real nice group.

this isn't about me, but my boyfriend...
when he was rushing last fall, i didn't know very much about specific fraternities, but i knew at least a few members from almost all of the groups, or at least had seen them around. but, i had never met a theta xi! i had seen their house on campus, and it's pretty big so i knew some members had to exist. i kept telling my man to pledge there because i wanted to meet "a real live theta xi!" of course, my bad advice was ignored completely towards pref(he humored me for awhile), but i did end up meeting a guy who pledged theta xi later that spring!
