And yet another attempt-

Another Attempted Abduction in South Baton Rouge
Email story to a friend
Woman Escapes Attempted Abduction
Another woman has been attacked in south Baton Rouge. Officials say it happened at the Shell gas station on O'Neal Lane.
The woman says she was trying to put air in her tires when a white man came upon her with a hunting knife and forced her into her car. Officials say they ended up off south. Harrels Ferry Road in Forest Park.
The suspect wrecked the car into this tree and the woman, identified as Vanessa McDaniel, got out and ran through the woods. The suspect ran into the woods as well. Dogs couldn't pick up his sent anywhere. Police think he might have gotten into another car.
Police say the suspect is a white male, but they are not sure if he is connected to the other four near abductions in only two weeks.

This is getting ridiculous. It's now up to one attempted kidnapping a day. We are almost prisoners in our own homes. I don't want to go shopping or out anywhere anymore. On the news last night they were saying how long it takes to catch a serial killer and how many innocent people die until they catch the killer. One thing that I am happy about is that all these women are getting away.

Did you read that an arrest has been made? A guy (in a white truck) was arrested as a "peeping tom". The thing is, he was in his 40's (I think) and that's not what has been described.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if they actually caught him though?
But then, there's the possibility of that OTHER guy.....

Hey Sis, I'm glad someone else in my family is a Greek Chat addict! Aren't you supposed to be working now?
I'm almost positive Greek Affairs will host something on safety. If not, LSU is. As usual, I'm sure Ann Walsh (the pepper spray lady that is always on the news) will come to talk to our house and most other houses. I know that Greek Affairs has been giving our president tips on safety about the house, etc. I heard that there are cops running the lakes. I haven't really seen any and I've been there quite a bit, so maybe they are dressed in plain clothes. Has anyone else seen cops running the lakes?
Gee, I'm glad to be back

yes, I know this is off the subject and that I'm a nerd- but I'm wondering if any of you LSU girls have the geaux box that cox is offering to us. I'm wondering if this would be a good thing to have.
No news on the subject as of now- at least not anything other than rumors and I don't think this board should contribute to them.
How is everyone's semester going so far?

ThetaLove, what is the Geaux Box? I haven't heard of it.
Yep nothing but rumors...
They keep saying they will relase a "profile"...
Meanwhile-a woman we know has West Nile and seems to be holding her own. We have our OWN rumors going around about this topic.

The Geaux Box is a service offered by Cox that gives you a cable modem for $25/month. That's pretty cheap and the service is pretty good.
I love how they keep saying "the profile will not give a name or address..." Well, DUH. If they had that, couldn't they just arrest the guy?
I'm really not so sure that they have anything. They may just be trying to psych the guy out. I don't have much faith in the BRPD.

I ordered the geaux box, it seems like a deal because it is $25 a month for one computer and an additional $5 a month for each extra computer. My roomates and I will split the bill.

ThetaLove, glad I could make you laugh
A bunch of us were talking today in the law school, and, well, we ALL know someone it could be. The profile ain't too specific. Not that I expected it to be.
Its some big white guy with cheap shoes.
Well, at least we know its not OJ Simpson - he had the $400 Bruno Mawgli shoes

The latest news from The Reveille:
Stanford canvass prompts further investigation
Police look to Sharlo, Briarwood
Because of the success of the Stanford canvass, law enforcement from BRPD and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office will canvass the Sharlo and Briarwood Estates area Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Police canvassed the Stanford area last week to gain more information about the serial killings. Police went to more than 200 homes and handed out more than 400 questionnaires. Officers stationed at the Baton Rouge Beach stopped numerous joggers and bicyclists for their help, Cpl. Mary Ann Godawa said.
Godawa said the canvassing produced solid leads and valuable information.
Officers again will hand out questionnaires and safety pamphlets in hopes of gaining more valuable information, Godawa said.
“We want the public to be involved, and we are looking for their assistance,” Godawa said.
Anyone with information may call the tipline at 389-3310 or 1-866-389-3310.
Persons wishing to remain anonymous may contact the task force at P.O. Box 3652, Baton Rouge, LA, 70821.

How is it on campus and the surrounding area in general?
I worry that people (like my daughter!) will get complacent and slip up in their safety practices. Is everyone still on their toes? I'm pleased with the canvassing if for no other reason than to keep this in the news and hopefully keep awareness high!

It might just be me, but it seems like security has been a little lacking in some places. During rush and during the first week of school or so, there was at least one cop and a couple on bikes behind the sorority houses. Now, I have only noticed them on the weekends, which doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe they are there, but just patrolling and not parked? Earlier in the week there was a man driving in a red hatchback exposing himself behind the houses. I haven't heard anything about it in the news, but it happened to two of my sisters- one of our new members and one active. I went walking the lakes just as the sun was going down and I didn't see any cops- at least not in marked cars- at BR Beach and usually there are at least 2 there. A friend said that they were there earlier at about 10 am, but again- it makes no sense to me.

You just confirmed my fears-Give the public some pablum and return to business as usual...
Is your sorority keeping it in the discussions? Are the girls still talking about it?
My daughter seems to be a bit laxidasical (sp?) with the whole subject. This is NOT a good situation. The quiet before the storm???

I know what you mean. I guess it is still a topic of discussion, especially when something new is released. I don't watch the news as much as I did during the summer. I do try to read the paper, though. Overall, we are being more careful than before the killings, but we are taking precautions that we should have always taken (Not walking alone, carrying mace and/or taking self-defense classes). I'm sure that your daughter is being smart about safety, she may just not show it. When I go home (I'm from BR) and return to the sorority house after dark, my mom is so worried and says, "don't go back, just sleep here." I tell her that nothing is going to happen. I try to act unconcerned even though I really am.

FBI, Dogs Aid La. Murder Probe
.c The Associated Press
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Police brought in three bloodhounds and several FBI agents from around the country Thursday to help their investigation of the slayings of three Baton Rouge women.
The dogs are ``an investigative tool to gather more information and to develop more leads,'' East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's Lt. Darrell O'Neal said. He wouldn't offer further details.
Police said the agents would remain in Baton Rouge with the dogs for three days and would provide further details on Friday.
DNA evidence linked the murders of Gina Wilson Green, Charlotte Murray Pace and Pam Kinamore to one man. Police won't say if they have a suspect.
Green, 41, was found strangled in her home Sept. 24. Pace, 22, was found stabbed to death May 31. Kinamore, 44, was abducted from her home July 12. Her throat was slit and her body dumped about 30 miles away from Baton Rouge.
