I feel old as dirt when I tell collegians that my senior year of college was the first year of RFM being used at my alma mater.

I still remember the OMGWTFBBQ!!111 over it because OMG THEY'RE TELLING US HOW MANY TO CUT HOW DARE THEY?!!! This was particularly true with stronger chapters. They were totally freaking out because they'd never been told to release such a high percentage of the pool so early. (Many were used to the whole "Let's keep Suzie until 3rd party and decide whether we want her right before Pref" thing.)
