On our campus, during informal recruitment for sororities and all the time for fraternities, we use banners to advertise our recruitment events. And it never fails that at least one banner gets stolen or defaced during that time. They hang on the basketball court fences in the middle of campus. SO, to rectify the situation, we have teams that put the banner up in the morning and take it down at dark. It's just easier to do this than to keep having to make new banners.
This also happens with our houses and our letters on them. Fraternities think it's funny to steal a letter off of our houses. I can't tell you the countless times we were Delta Phi or Phi Epsilon instead of Delta Phi Epsilon....and remaking those letters is a pain in the ass!!!
