Theoretically, this is true. Most get released early for grades, reputation (no recs, the dreaded social media concerns, etc). A few linger on though because they have to invite X number back to each party. I would venture though that these two were on the cusp, so to speak, and didn't make the cut because other higher ranked women were still available.
For example, at Alabama this year the average GPA of all women placed was 3.62. You really need a 3.0 as a minimum to get invited back first round. But as the numbers narrow during the week, you can see that having even a 3.1 is going to put you in a precarious position. If they can take an equally nice, sweet woman who has a 3.3 and you have a 3.1, you can guess who doesn't get invited back.
