At the tail end of High School, some people called me "Turtle" because I liked wearing Turtleneck shirts and sweaters as much as possible when the weather allowed.
No one started calling me Mimi until I was 24 or 25. I worked at an Assisted Living Facility part-time as a cook and utility worker in the kitchen of one of the houses at the time, and would help to set out the family style meals and bus tables when needed. Many of the residents asked me my name, and I was happy to tell them what it was. One gentleman in particular said my name slowly, then turned to me and said "That's too hard....I'm going to call you Mimi." That is how I got my nickname.....which is what I go by now.
