I'm not a KD, but an SAI.

I have a red rose tattoo. It was more for my twin sister than for SAI, but it's all the same.

I suggest that you rethink your idea about getting a tatoo. It seemed really cool in college, but I am SO glad that I didn't get one.

Sorry for the swerve, but I have to agree. I have a sister who as a collegiate got an AOII tattoo. I remember making a comment about not wanting something so permanent on my body. She was flabbergasted. "Why wouldn't I want AOII permanently on my body? It's a lifetime commitment." Cut to 15 years later when my husband and I meet up with this sister for lunch. My husband asked her if she was as into AOII as I was. She rolled her eyes and said, "Oh that was college." I said, "But it's a lifetime commitment." She actually said, "Whatever!" I think her tattoo was a bigger lifetime commitment....strange that she doesn't see it that way!

To paraphrase one of my favorite GCers - your badge should be enough if you want to display your affiliation

If you're dead-set on getting a tattoo, don't go an ask other people what you should get. It's going on YOUR body, not theirs.

I want a KD tattoo, but I feel like I'll regret it in a few years. I never want to regret something KD-related, so I think I'll hold off. But if you're going to get one, get the symbol that means the most to you, the one whose meaning you hold most dear to your heart. I really want a white rose, since for me, those hold the most significance. I have another sister who's all about the dagger, though. It's up to you! Good luck!

ETA: Fyi, Kappa Delta policy is that it is in "poor taste" to have the crest, badge, words "Kappa Delta" or the greek letters KΔ (or KD) tattooed on the body. Just so you know!

I would never get a tattoo myself, BUT, I think it's cool to get things that other members of your organization would recognize and outsiders wouldn't. Same thing with jewelry...I don't want to wear stuff with my letters in a professional setting, but if I wear something with quats, other Phi Mus (or other Greeks, in general) might see it and ask.

I wouldn't get a tattoo because I'm not a tattoo person.

However, this is also cultural. If the culture of your GLO is conducive to tattoos (and brands) then do it in a clean, safe, and smart manner. Some people have tattoos that you can see on their arms, legs, and other parts of the body. Other people have tattoos that no one can see. They can practically wear anything and attend any type of event without worrying about whether their tattoo can be seen. They can also get older and change their mind about the tattoo (but not about their GLO lifetime commitment) without feeling they have to go through the nightmare of tattoo removals all over their body.

This is also relevant for GLOs in which the lifetime commitment means we rarely hear members say "oh that was college". The people who would say that wouldn't be around us in the first place. I know BGLO sorority and fraternity members who are 30+ who still get tattoos (and brands). Many of them can attend black tie galas, professional meetings, social events, and service events without people knowing they have tattoos (and brands).

Do what you do but make sure it works for both YOU and your GLO.
