My apologies. You specifically stated that Christians need to be treated with respect. I think that can be extrapolated out to mean that these people think that Christians are not at present being treated with respect. I think there are many people within your fold (not you specifically of course) who are bent on the destruction of America in hopes of bringing back a simpler day when women, gays, blacks, everyone who is not white male and Christian, knew their place. Fighting against rights of all kinds for all people, IMO, is fighting for the destruction of our country. Some redneck on TV isn't going to do much harm, but the electeds who agree with him sure can.

But I honor your efforts. If the Republican party were run by women we would have a much more interesting, nuanced discussion in Washington.

We're doing our best! Our National President has a seat on the RNC, so at least we can sure we're heard, even if they don't always do the smart thing and follow our directions!

I quoted this on my Facebook page. Even though I'm not a huge fan of Rick Warren, he nails this one.

“Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”
~Rick Warren

One of the posts following this: I would add, "don't judge, don't hate, respect one another, live and let live, keep an open heart".

And I'm sure that if someone in Rick Warren's employ gave an interview to Ladies' Home Journal where they said something that makes him look like a jackass for employing them, he'd fire them.

Somehow, the suggestion that "you can expect no better from those kinds of people" seems a bit ironic under the circumstances.

I agree. I just love when people who advocate for equal rights for everyone, don't stereotype, etc. make comments such as that. (sarcasm)

For the record, I'm from a small town, could be considered a "country" person or a "redneck" and fully support gay rights. Just because someone is a "redneck" or from the South doesn't mean they're going to say things like Phil Robertson said.

Anyway, as disgusted as I was by WHAT he said, I was more disgusted by the language he used and the specific things he said. It would have been different if he simply said "I do not support gay marriage" instead of comparing it to bestiality and prostitution.

FWIW, one of our gay friends recently divorced. He said that he obtained it legally, but I have no details to the legal aspect. Since he and his partner were married for 14 years, I would assume it was more of a partnership and the dissolving of the same. Was same sex marriage legal anywhere in the US 14 years ago?
