I do not shop at or go to Walmart. I do not go near Walmart. Period!

Amen about Walmart.

I have gone there a few times over the years and wish I had worn a disguise. I prefer Target. I also dislike places like Cosco(sp) and Sam's Club. I avoid them like the plague.

Because all "unwritten rules" are debatable social norms and/or personal preferences.

Formal/official rules and practices, guidelines, and laws are "written rules" and make for a boring thread.

The key is for people to know when rules are not unwritten and not based on preferences. There are written rules for things like speed limit, which lane to drive in, and turn signals. Regardless of personal preferences and what people tend to do, the police can give tickets for this stuff.

1) When making a turn, changing lanes, banging a uey, etc., use a turn signal! (People in Houston especially don't seem to understand this concept)
Isn't this a written rule (law)? Because if turn signals are optional in other states, that would explain a lot and give me someplace to direct my road rage.

Ha, what I mean is that most unwritten rules are based on social behavior and are things that everyone should follow (usually based on courtesy and/or common sense). They're things that are known (or should be known) by everyone.

Yes, some are up for debate, but I wouldn't consider eating the bottom part of a cupcake first to be an "unwritten rule."

But maybe that's just my own special interpretation of an unwritten rule.

If it is a law, I'd love to print it out, rent a plane, and drop flyers over the city. NO ONE here uses a turn signal. And they're all so slow when turning or switching lanes!

My aggressive, New England style of driving definitely doesn't fit in here in Texas.

Yeah it is the difference between a general unwritten rule and a personal unwritten rule. This thread is a combination and it can be difficult to tell the difference for some of these. LOL. As long as people don't bother how I eat a doughnut or cupcake. I like my eggs very cheesy so the only thing running is the cheese.

In every city I have lived you can get ticketed for not using turn signals. That isn't an unwritten rule. It can be considered the equivalent of "reckless driving". People drive reckless until they see law enforcement. I'm a safe and careful driver. I try to stay away from reckless drivers.

About the bags---ehhh....It just gets under my skin. I'm not sure why. And Tony, that's why people can buy bags with all types of fun things on them--for the gym, for groceries, anything. That's another thing I hate. I hate when people use plastic grocery bags as actual bags. Gross! It really grosses me out. I don't know why.

ASTAlumna brought up some really good points. Where I am living now, people like to either not use turn signals or they like to slam on their brakes right before they merge onto the highway from an exit. It's so dangerous. People say New Yorkers are bad drivers. Really? Compared to where I am living now, I have to disagree.

She also mentioned something about carts and taking up the aisle. I agree with that but, I'll take it one step further with something I mentioned in another thread. If I have a cart full of stuff, don't walk in through the "exit" door as I am trying to walk out of it and then get annoyed when I don't move over for you. Learn to read the signs and use them accordingly. I go out of my way NOT to move just because it upsets me so much!

Speaking of carts---Please put them away at the store in the cart corral. Otherwise, you just look lazy.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen anyone try to go in the exit door. Do you have separated automatic doors?

Yeah, I had to look that up because I was about to blame all my Texas-native friends for the rotten driving around here. You definitely have to use turn signals in Texas.

Oh, well. Back to blaming Michigan.

Really? Then you must live near some courteous people. I'm thinking of the automatic doors at Wal-Mart. As you are walking out with your cart filled to the brim, there's always that one jerk or that family of jerks that walk in, all holding hands (of course) that won't move. They look at you like you are the hateful one because you won't move. Ugh! I give everyone a dirty look who does this. Or I hate when people with their large carts full of stuff try to walk out through the "in" doors as I am coming inside the store. It's like, learn how to follow directions!

^^^ It really just boggles my mind that people would do this. Why don't they go in and out the right doors? Do they have to stand there waiting for someone who is coming the right direction to activate it from the other side?

I will say that when we were in Australia, I kept screwing up when I tried to walk past people coming the other way. I'd go to my right, and they'd go to their left, and well, I never thought about the walking also being on the left. I guess that's an unwritten rule there.

Nope. Sadly, they are just inconsiderate and can't follow directions.

Figure out your role at a 2 way stop and a 4 way stop!! Nothing irritates me more than stupid people who don't know what to do.

Why the hell are you stopping when there is no stop sign and why are you blowing through the stop sign when there is one there?? (in store parking lot entrances/exits)

One day I will just not care any more and I WILL run your a$$ over!!!

LOL. I lived in Michigan for 25 years and I'll admit that I didn't use my blinker much when I was driving in heavy traffic areas like Detroit. If you use your blinker it gives everyone else a heads up on what you are about to do and it's like they go out of their way to hurry up and cut you off.
