I told an officemate of mine, a Scottish woman, that he had died. She informed me that he "wrecked South Africa." That was news to me. Even my South African friends never said anything like that.

A towering world figure, I'm glad Nelson Mandela lived long enough to see and experience the freedoms and dignity he fought for so courageously throughout his life.

He lived his life unbowed in the face of evil, yet by his example, taught his countrymen, and the world, that love and justice will, indeed, win.

May God bless his soul.

That's weird to me. Most Scottish people I know (especially Glaswegians) appreciated and sympathized with Mandela. When he appeared in George Square to receive the Freedom of Glasgow, the crowd was huge


But of course, arseholes and racists are found everywhere. Le sigh.
